Patrona Bavariae

Gärtnerplatzviertel, Munich

Historically the South of Bavaria is predominantly Roman-Catholic, but it was Elector Maximilian I, who introduced the adoration of the Virgin Mary on a broader scale before and during the Thirty Years’ War. Since then, churches and pilgrimages in the name of St. Mary are common, and you will probably find no church in Bavaria without her image.

And photographically, of course, this has its merits, too.

    1. Kardinalspurpur, Walter! Und wir in München dürften einzigartig sein mit einem Kardinal namens ‘Marx’!
