Galeries Lafayette, Berlin
For a small-town dweller, luxury malls like the Lafayette in Berlin of course provide nearly endless food for the camera – and for thinking along the lines: Will that ever pay off? Are there enough people willing to pay a premium just to shop in such an artificial environment, where the goods are pretty much the same as elsewhere? It seems they are.
Kitsch on a grand scale. Great photo, though!
“Kitsch” is a proven and tested method to get the money out of the customers’ pockets.
This is terrific! It reminds me of M C Escher’s etching Relativity.
Paul, that was probably the intention of the interior architect – and he succeeded. That I am not so fond of it has probably to do with the environment: I have the feeling it was only made to let the mall look cool.
