  1. His appearance—both attire and obesity—shouts out that he has no respect, either for others or for himself.
Do you think his mother would have permitted him to appear in public like that?

    1. Tyler, we all were quite astonished to see that appearance in an outfit more suitable for carneval than anything else. Truly strange. The U.S. are held in high esteem in Ireland, but I don’t think something like this could be of great support.

  2. Markus,
Did you speak with the couple? I am unwilling to assume his nationality based solely on that hat—I can easily imagine that what is sticking out of his back pocket is a Santa Claus cap. Their sandals strike me as more European. I just don’t know.
Perhaps he was a minor functionary in the Baader-Meinhof Gang, now traveling in deep disguise?

Once upon a time (many years ago) I bought a cheap, glittery tie-clip that spelled out the name “Harold” at a flea market. The dealer said “I knew that someone named Harold would come along.”
And I said “Madam, my name is not Harold and, if it were, I would >not< buy this!"

Now, if you will excuse me, I must get back to shoveling rain in Seattle.

    1. I like your idea of a Baader-Meinhof subordinate 😉 (The Stammheim jail, place of their imprisonment, will be torn down in 2013).

In fact, calculated provocation could form a reasonable explanation here, too. But I didn’t ask…
