I love the beauty and design of gardens like this — as long as someone else is doing all the work to maintain them. I know just enough about it to know how much work it is.

Earl, personally I am more the English landscape garden type, carefully crafted so that you just know but not see man’s influence. Or, the other extreme, Zen gardens: everything chosen and arranged.
Gardens like this one certainly do impress me, but leave me a bit hanging in the midst of air: A lot of craftsmanship, still natural, but nature brought in façon, a façon that reflects pure human will… I admit I have difficulties with it. The banal hosepipe at least amused me.
