The term “English garden” is nowadays used in Germany to describe a garden, where natural or nature-like shapes of terrain and plants are predominant and can provide a feeling of landscape beauty where man’s interference is well hidden. The Victorian garden of Kylemore obviously did not follow this paradigm, instead a place was carved out of the surrounding wilderness where visible cultivation took place, up to the usage of terrain heating pipes to allow the growth of foreign plants in the midst of Irish weather.
