Carl, this visit to the mainland of Croatia, just 50km south of the commercial and touristical center of Rijeka, offered a lot of unexpected insights. After the post-Tito war of ~1990, there were decades of decay, and only now development seems to start again. This part of the coast is less sought after because of the cold winds, and so the massive negative impact of touristic development in form of hotel clumps seems to spare this stretch of coast.
