Carl, I am still oscillating in my preferences of focal lengths – for quite some time I used different 35mm lenses, currently most of the time a 28mm (with auto focus), but quite a number of the images I love best were created with 58mm or even that old 85mm lens. The longer focal length supports my wish to isolate or concentrate subject matter.
With those old manual lenses my whole process has slowed down considerably, and I am still not sure if this is helpful or hindering. Being embedded in family activities like last year in London, it made me definitely a one-lens-guy, with all its consequences.
Wonderful. Every now and then I get reminded that you actually can take a beautiful picture with a longer than normal lens…
