Through an Italian Expat in Germany we were directed to the island of Sant’ Erasmo, where we found an unexpectedly quiet and friendly hotel (Il Lato Azurro). This island is 30 minutes by boat away from Venice, but approaching Venice by ship has its own merits. And on Sant’ Erasmo I saw my first Venice style fireplug, completely different from what I’ve ever seen in other countries.
Looks buoy’ish, doesn’t it? Or like these things you use for attaching a ship’s ropes … bollards.
In a semi-rural environment this type of fireplug is indeed a bit strange, also dimension-wise much more a “plug” than our grown-up hydrants.
