“Gurkerln” by the Austrian artist Erwin Wurm.
I can say, with all honesty, that I’ve never seen such a sight as this. 🙂
Makes one smile, isn’t it? The cucumber is a well loved food in Austria, mostly addressed lovingly in the diminuitiv “Gurkerl”, and can also be seen as a symbol for a kind of a micro-bourgeois smugness. This is probably what the artist wanted to hint at.
Again, I am surprised. I would never have associated smugness, at any level, with a pickle! LOL
Paul, Austria certainly is a small galaxy of its own, a melting pot of German, Hungarian and Slavonian and also Jewish influences, a strong and fond remembrance of imperial times, and and and …
Worth exploring, and most probably quite amusing from a foreigner’s point of view.
This is great. Art as I like it. Perfect. Big smile.
This one I took in January. The woolen caps add another twist, but the composition itself is not really strong.
And I don’t like the too obvious phallic symbolism not that much.
Phallic? Never thought about it *that* way… maybe the first one…
