The red “A” in that old lettering is the symbol for a pharmacy here in Germany. Inside the letter there is also visible an „Äskulapnatter“, a particular snake which is part of the symbol of medical healing.

Thanks, John. The city offers many such opportunities to play with writings and symbols, which of course interest me, as I am in a small town during most of the time.
Spot on! The red really provides that touch of heat needed for the somewhat muted city colors this time of the year. BTW, never even noticed that the “A” actually contains an Äskulapsnatter. And another day where I actually learned something… 😉
