Reflected Sunlight in the Old Boat House

Door and Light SwitchesSchool’s out here in Bavaria, and we used the first holiday weekend for a visit to some relatives in Austria. Besides the welcome opportunity to cool down in the lake – temperatures are in summer range again – the old boat house offered visual delicacies as well.

PIT

Working on prominent lines and combining strong foreground with a blurred, yet still informative background, I found new joy in wideangle perspectives. Of course I am curious if the partial unsharpness I deplored in my widangle images from Budapest and Krk is a problem of the lens – then I would be willing to replace it – or the photographer. If it’s, as I tend to assume now, the photographer, then I could assign the money set aside to replace it for a workshop, probably on the landscape subject.

Noir et l’Or, Aromcaffè

Noir et Blanc

Aromcaffè

The coffeehouses in Budapest were inviting, especially now as it was neither crowded nor too hot. And with a good sense for design and a certain facileness in decoration they very often formed attractive places to stay. Difficult to resist for someone like me, whose engine runs on coffee of all kinds.

The More the Merrier: Fenders

Fenders

Whilst it made up for attractive subject matter, I admit being astonished about this amount of fenders, especially in a quiet harbour and a mooring area where the ships don’t stay even overnight. But then, who knows, maybe this is a local way of demonstrating power.

Water Garden

Hellbrunn I

Hellbrunn IIThis certainly is a diametral counterdraft to yesterday’s Bus Stop photos. Prince Archbishop Markus Sitticus erected this garden with its aquatic surprises in the early 17th century for the pleasure of himself and his aristocats. Democratized now, they are visited by legions of tourists and provide a major source of income for Salzburg.

Spellbound Forest

Spellbound Forest IIA smalll evening photo walk with the local photographers group (not to confound with the duck’s camera club) gave some nice results despite of the grey weather and early dusk. Unexpectedly the air was almost quiet, greatly helping with the slow shutter speeds. The place is a local backwater, commonly denominated “The Paradise”. As the state road runs nearby, it is a noisy paradise however. But you don’t hear it in the photographs anyway.

Door and Red ParkaA Westend street scenery. I probably can count myself lucky for not having been accused being a stalker, re-using that red parka as a welcome color element.

Tree House – House Tree

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

This is one of the personal rewards of photography for me: Standing in exact the same place I had been thousands of time before, commuting from work, and opening the eyes – discovering something new, something that triggers a cell way back in the innards of the brain. Reacting with the camera, quick, as the bus is already at the stop. Reviewing, making thoughtful connections to a topic on the inner todo list. Editing and making an image out of a snapshot. What else is needed but to wait for the print from the lab?

Easter Colors

Rain on Restaurant Tables

Easter Sunday was almost as wet as expected, and so eggs and kids had to be kept in the flat. To be honest, I didn’t mind, because after mass at 05:00 my inclination for activties was pretty low.

/home/springm/Bilder/2010/2010-02/dsc26018b_1.jpg The dreamy effect in the image above results from the lens wide open at f2.2. To get enough interesting detail I used the detail slider of lightzone – bibble5 currently offers no such tool. There was no toning necessary as the evening (non-)light with shutter speeds of 10 to 30s provided a natural blue toning.

Evening at the Lake

dsc25897b

dsc25900b The lake we are heading for in the summer is now a cold, almost lifeless place (besides that one bald coot trying to destroy the reflection). But for a walk it is attractive now, even more so when light snowfall dampens the noise of the cars. Having the tripod with me instead of the fashy walking sticks meant that ground speed was lower than expected by my wife, but she managed to bear with me without suffering too noticable.

Update: Please find the wallpapers for February 2010 are online. You find them in the usual screen resolutions underhttp://markus-spring.info/wp/wallpapers/

Preference, disposedness, addiction?

Some peoply say that my all-time disposedness for coffee is bordering addiction already, but be it as it is, I simply had to take this image. And at least it’s subtle enough to make the thought of a coffee only sneak into your consciousness.

the way home from office in munich invariably leads my steps along a hairdresser’s shop on one of the main roads, and the light and reflections as well as the colors are always interesting. this window was already subject matter for this post, but this time i caught the barber in action.

freezing in the forbidden city

it seems that the history of the chinese emperor’s regime is in an adapted way now repeating: legions from the working class are doing low paid jobs whilst a small number of highest class are enjoying boundless wealth. The abundant treasures of the forbidden city reminded me immediately of b. brecht’s poem “who built thebes with its seven gates?”.

3087060629_95713ed217_b_d freezing cold it was in there and soon it became crowded, too. the sheer number of buildings with their rich ornaments and roof decorations was impressing, the rare water bodies in the interior brought welcome opportunity to enjoy outer reflection, too.

/home/springm/Bilder/2008/2008-11/20081108/dsc08258-1.jpg the dark red (“ochsenblut” in german) was strong, especially in its continuity through the whole palace region, but astonishing was the fact that a chinese visitor chamaeleon-like was adapting this color.

city lights – go yellow

I had looked at this facade quite often during day- and nighttimes as the offer a rich play of effects – just see onion spire, reloaded

Whilst the moving body parts in the gym windows of the first floor don’t really lend themselves for a (static) photograph, the reflections do so quite well.

I do love the city lights at night, especially when they emphasize parts of the architecture not visible during the daylight.
