Clouded Goodby to Krk

Clouds over the Adria

I started this sequence with images from the island of Krk with a clouds scenery, and with an image of clouds I want to finish it. At this time of the year such evening clouds are not uncommon, as are heavy thunderstorms at night. In a trailer or even a tent these are memorable events. To emphasize the drama in the image I made use of the details-slider in lightzone, an instrument that I could not replicate neither in my favourite bibble5 nor in gimp.

Sweet Evening Clouds

Evening Clouds over the Adriatic Sea

No twist in this image, no opportunity for a rant or talkin’ politics. Family holidays mean just some occupation with mundane things like driving, setting up a the caravan, getting the kids into and out of the water and so on. Private time was restricted to two images of the evening clouds and now some time on the WLAN to write a post.

But then – this means recreation!

Drizzle, clouds, snow

/home/springm/Bilder/2009/2009-11/./dsc23921sb.jpg The weekend was weather-wise pretty much grey in grey, so this picture from last week might be a good representation. It is the time between the bright colors of fall and the beginning non-colors of early winter, where the drizzle is still stronger than the snow. But it is the first year where I can photographically enjoy this time, too. Only partially it has to do with good gloves and a good tripod, the bigger part is a fresher, free view that identifies beauty in more of its incarnations.

Look up!

/home/springm/Bilder/2009/2009-10/dsc20632ss.jpg I was so busy with that small scenery of grass and lake in almost complete darkness, hiding under a large umbrella held by my tip-toeing daughter, that I did not look up to the mountain and the clouds on the other side of the lake until the kid’s voice told me something about a strange light in the sky. With the clouds moving fast, this mystery soon was resolved: the mountain top hotel of Mt Predigtstuhl, were the world’s oldest large-cabin funicular drops passengers since the year 1928. But in the moving clouds one could have thought that a spaceship was looking for a place to land.

travellers in upcoming storm

dsc17916s_1.jpg

travelling home last week I was really p***ed: again the fast train from munich was late and the connecting train was gone when we arrived. such is the service of the deutsche bahn. my bad mood prevailed for quite some time, proportional to the non-facilities of the province railway station that freilassing is. it was late, a thunderstorm was coming and i had to carry some things so the hands were not free for the camera.

dsc17922s.jpg after a while my better side prevailed and i managed to get some shots of the trains in the upcoming storm as well as the fellow victims in this inhospitable location.

dsc17928s_1.jpg and when that guy on the next platform started his wheelies in the dry zone under the roof, just stopping before he got out into the rain, i was fascinated enough to forget about my anger and switch my camera to those fine iso 6400, not fast enough to stop his motion but sufficient for panning.

clearing storm over St. Pankraz

St. Pankraz church is built on one of the oldest inhabitated places in the valley of Bad Reichenhall. Accessible through only a narrow footpath, this location was safe from attacks from below and must have been an old ritual place, too. One of my best christmas experiences is connected with this church: walking 1 hour through the snow, with a pitch-torch in the hand, and then attending midnight mass.
